NEWS OF THE WEEK

Bringin' home the Bacon

Any of you who have been reading Philly's blog will by now be aware of his obsession with bacon brought on by, obviously its delishiousness, but also because you cna not buy 'normal' bacon here.

WEll...it seems bacon is taking the world BY STORM.
First Bacon Vodka...now Bacon cologne.

One-ounce bottles of bacōn, pronounced "bay-cone," sell for $36 and can be ordered at the product's website, fargginay.com. The unisex line comes in Gold and Classic, offering bold and subtle bacon scents, respectively.

The creator of the scent, John Leydon, soon hopes to have bacōn sold in fine department stores around the country.

"My ambition is to be in high-end retailers," Leydon, 44, said in a phone interview with AOL News. "You'll never walk into Spencer's Gifts and see this product. It's too classy."

Here's hoping it doesn't catch on....

T.A.L.C.A

This weekend i spent da bunny season with my lovely Lore and her family in the South in Talca.

I was soopa excited to meet her crazy family (of 30 cousins!) who i'd heard so much about, and who it seems had heard so much about me.

On Thursday after work we went back to Lore's for lunch and hot chococlate with Gilmore Girls in bed followed by an accidental 2 hour nap (the result of our everyday 6.30 wake up call to get to work on time) and then headed off to Talca in Lore's friend's Seba's car at 9pm.
i hate traffic.
We arrived at Lore's at 12.30am and went straight to beddy boo wrapped up in Lore's flannel pink pj's with different coloured circles on them and a silver glittery border. Yeh.....anyone who knows me or has ever seen my underwear or night wear know that's not quite the way i roll.....but i was indeed warm. Perhaps toasty even.

Friday morning Lore and i slept in until we were ready for brekkie which was AMAZING.
c.a.k.e
An amazing GLUTEN FREE soft meringue cake of 4 layers which had alternate layers of cream and raspberry jam. I had 2 pieces.
We then settled down to do some work- me on my stupid essays for Kings, she on her thesis.
After a big lunch and a movie we headed over to her Grandma's house where i met the cousins.

Questions, questions, questions.
They had certainly heard about me and wanted to know everything! One aunty even asked what my personal relationship was to Kate Middleton and seemed almost angry when i said i not only didn't know her but had never even seen her or William on the street.

Her family was soooo welcoming and i seemed to fit right in with all her amazing cousins (the majority of which are girls) who are all insane and loud and jump on eachother and are awesome.

Cake total: 7

Saturday Lore and i woke up late again and then headed off to the asado at her grandma's house (bbq).
Her grandma has this outhouse especially for bbq's with this super profesh, huge built-in grill which was just LAIDEN with meat meat meat.

After the whole family just moped around lying on sofas, dozing or playing games or watching movies until tea time.
Yes, more food.

Tea time was home-made quesillo (a special type of chilean cheese) with ham, avocado, tomatoes, bread and tea and coffee.

After this Lore, Vale (her brothers gf),Jesu (one of her cousins) and i took the youngest cousins, Panki and Mane (both 6) to watch the family "men's football game".
It was hilarious.
Panki and Mane are arch enemy rivals who spend all their time together and whatever one does the other must top and then subsequently push the other over for even doing said thing in the first place. Good times.

Mane y Panki

We then came back to the house for dinner which ws some kind of pasta-y thing and another gluteny thing and soup and salad and cake.
I said no to all of these and i was by this point resembling either a house or maybe a whale? but definately feeling like BOTH.

Cake total: 5

We then headed to Lore's cousins house next door and started pre-drinking for going out. The whole night was sooo funnn and its the first time ive been properly out dancing in AGESSS.

The next day DA EASTER BUNNY CAMEEEEEEEEE!!!

After shit loads of chocolate, a hangover from the night before and general exhaustion from having to meet so many new people and from speaking only spanish alllll weekend i was exhauted and totally ready to go home which ended up taking forever because of traffic and we still had to wake up at 6.30 the next day for work :(

Nonetheless, an amazing weekend of food, fun and food.

Thanks Lore!!

NEWS OF THE WEEK

Playboy's Dirty!

Are you one to believe this?
Well you should.
BECAUSE IT'S TRUE.

Scores of bunnies and old men alike fell ill after a recent party at the playboy mansion that experts are syaing is due to the Legionella bacteria found in one hot tub.

The bacteria, that causes Legionnaires' disease and a milder illness called Pontiac fever provokes symptoms such as a fever and headache.

Officials contacted 439 people and found that 123 had fevers and at least one other symptom (what OTHER symptom!?) with 69 falling ill on the same day.

Not sure that the kind of dirty people had in mind...

crack on

If you have been following Lulo's or Philly's blogs you will know we have all been suffering from;

 Kings-is-a-bitch-for-sending-us-work-to-do-itis.

It's a pretty serious maladie.

We've basically all decided that April isnt going to be that great but that as soon as these essays are done we can crack on with life in May with Buenos Aires and Philly's birthday.

With one of my essays basically done, ima start on the second one today, get the translations done on the weekend in Talca and finish up any loose ends the weekend after.

THAT IS MY PLAN AND I WILL STICK TO IT.

So yeah, screw you april.

I never liked you much anyway.

NEWS FLASH!

This woman is a dick.

I waited 3 hours for her to turn up to our meeting to go over my article which she rescheduled twice and then just decided to be a further hour late for.
I then stayed in the office working until 7.30pm when she told me she was tired and wanted to go home.

SHE WAS TIRED?!

I had been in the office for 11 hours and 45 minutes.

Not.cool.

NEWS OF THE WEEK

This week's news is about me.

IT'S A BIGGUN.

As of tomorrow i will have my first ever piece published for the Entertainment section of La Segunda: a two page spread about the economic benefits of the royal wedding and how the changes in British society will change the manner in which people will celebrate this royal wedding in comparison with the last.

It is all my ideas,

my work,
my decisions,
my layout,
my title.

I am so proud of myself, and so amazed that the Entertainment section asked me to do the piece instead of do it themselves and so pleased that AT LAST i have been allowed to dictate my own story instead of follow the ideas given to me by my editor.

"Boda Real se toma Londres" will be out friday.
You'll find it here, first.

LOOK AT MY NAILS!

Look they're cool, right??

Lulo come over on Monday night and wacked out the ol' chinky nail salon in my very own living room to work her magic.

And magic it was indeed.

A nifty 1 hour, 30 minutes later approx (however long Practical Magic is) they were done.
Quite worth the time i think.

They've gone down a H.O.O.T in the office.

This is a joke.

Seriously now.
This is a friggin joke.
Even lil Lore is ill now.

Can La Segunda please sort out their 'heating' or lack thereof because it is no longer amusing to me that i am forced to sit inside, in a warm country, wearing a dress, a top, a cardi, a coat and a scarf for warmth purposes.

This is not Paris, circa 2010.
This is Santiago.
and i wanna see some results.

Anni knows what im talkin about!

What's the plan, stan?

So, last night Lulo popped over again from Viña to set the plan in motion.

With only 7 and a half weeks until i finish work at La Segunda and a mere 8 weeks before we set off on our travels, we decided we should have a sit down and decide where we're going.

Here is a very rough plan;

Atacama desert
Over the Andes by jeep for 3 days to Salt flats in Bolivia
La Paz
Lake Titicaca
Cuzco
Machu Pichu
Atacama
Santiago
England.

i. am. so. excited.

One more thing..

Can people start taking this whole hot chocolate thing seriously please!?

I posted on facebook the following,

"Does anyone want to be an amazing friend and send a lil care package out to Chile for me...? I want hot choc :("

Clearly no one was that bothered about being a good friend as NO ONE replied.

This is getting serious.

It's cold in the office.
It gets boring.
I´m on a liquid diet.

HOT CHOCOLATE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO ALL OF THESE ISSUES.

I shall be available to take hot choc flavour inquiries anytime this week should you wish to start taking orders.

Best wishes,
A FRIEND IN NEED.

NEWS OF THE WEEK

Grassy not gassy.

She looks like a bit of a heifer, she ought to go on a diet!
Well.....she is.

Research shows that a new diet for cows and sheep could reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

A diet involving maize silage, naked oats and higher sugar grasses could reduce the amount of methane they produce, which at the moment accounts for 41% of Britain's overall methane emissions.
Agriculture as a whole accounts for around nine per cent of all British greenhouse gas emissionsm, most of this comes from sheep, cows and goats.
A trial showed that high-sugar grasses could reduce an animal's methane emissions by 20 per cent for every kg of weight gain and naked oats could reduce methane emissions from sheep by 33 percent.

I guess a little extra gas really can go a long way.

Ciao mis padres..

Well, the Walker's are gone which means only another 2 months before i leave on my travels, and then back to England.

It feels so weird to think that i've already been here for 3 months.
Not weird in the sense that it's flown by so fast because i'm somewhere new, just in the sense that i really feel like i live here. Everyday goes by like it would in London because i feel perfectly at home here and the thought of leaving here for good in just 2 months feels almost unbelieveable.

It's so odd how you can just pack up your things, move somewhere new and start a whole new life for however long you have or for however long you want and truly feel at home there.

I can't wait to be back in London, working by the Thames again, walking to all my favourite places, going to festivals, stopping my Apostrophe for a tea or Mint Vintage for a quick browse, but at the same time, right now i really wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

So, only 2 months left of Sunny Santiago.

I suppose i better make the most of it.

LOLAA

...palooza.

IT WAS AWESOME.

As i didnt get back home from Atacama until Saturday night, i joined the crew on the Lollapalooza train of fun on Sunday with my groupies -my parents, Kazza W and Sean-a-paul.

Ever the prepared fella, Sean had with him his trusty festival gear: neurofen, lip balm, ear plugs.
That's a real party-er for you.

With Philly's sneakily sneaked in Pisco in hand we spent the day 'boogying' as my mother would say, to Chico Trujillo, The Flaming Lips, Cat Power, Boys Noize and Kanye West.

Big shout out to the baked potato stand. Tata with insides mashed with butter and cheese, topped with bolognase sauce, caramelised onions, sweetcorn and sour cream.
GOOD. MOVE.
